Basic tips to help with maintenance of your car

This is an introductory short course that covers the basic knowledge that a car owner needs to have in order to look after a vehicle between services.
The participants will learn basic automotive tasks from checking oil to changing tyres in a safe and controlled environment. Held in our automotive workshop, this course is ideal for first car owners or anyone with no prior knowledge of basic mechanics.

What you will learn:

• understanding the owner's manual
• check that all exterior lights are working
• check that glass surfaces are clean and free from chips, cracks and scratches
• check that the windscreen wipers and washers operate efficiently
• check the wiper rubbers are secure and in good condition
• test the handbrake to ensure it 'holds' the car
• check tyre pressure and tyre condition including tread depth
• change a flat tyre
• check and change globes and fuses
• under-bonnet checks will include oil and fluid levels, battery water level, windscreen washer fluid, engine coolant, power steering fluid and brake and clutch fluid.
