Want to become a pool lifeguard?

This accredited short course provides the skills and knowledge required to work as a pool lifeguard. The course is delivered and assessed over two full days from a pool or aquatic environment.

All candidates must ensure they have a current level 2 first aid course (HLTAID011 - Provide First Aid) prior to enrolment. A certified copy of the Statement of Attainment must be supplied upon enrolment.

Upon successful completion, students will receive the SISSS00133 Pool Lifeguard Skillset. The following units of competency are delivered for this skillset:

SISCAQU020 Perform water rescues
SISCAQU019 Supervise patron safety in aquatic locations
SISCAQU021 Perform complex water rescues
HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

The program requires applicants to be competent swimmers and comfortable in deep water.

• Teamwork to safely and efficiently extract both conscious and unconscious casualties from deep and shallow water
• Contact and non-contract tows of casualties in a range of distances
• Swim 25 metres and retrieve a submerged object replicating a person from the greatest depth of the facility but no greater than 2 metres in depth and extract the unconscious casualty at least 25 metres to safety

Please be advised that each aquatic facility has different age requirements when hiring lifeguards and obtaining this qualification is no guarantee of future employment.
