Hands-on learning that’s shaping a stronger dental career
Melanie Peile is building on a long and rewarding career in dental assisting by completing her Certificate IV in Dental Assisting at Chisholm in 2026. Having previously studied at Chisholm, Melanie chose to return because of the experienced teachers and high-quality facilities. She values the supportive learning environment and the practical, hands-on approach that helps bring theory to life.
Throughout her studies, she has especially enjoyed developing her radiography skills and working in a clinical setting. The opportunity to engage directly with patients and apply her learning in real-world scenarios has strengthened her confidence and capability.
Melanie began her career in dental assisting in 1993 after completing Year 11. Since then, she has remained committed to the industry, returning to work after raising her children and continuing to grow her skills. Her current studies are helping her expand her expertise and take on greater responsibilities in the workplace.
Melanie found her learning experience to be well supported. She benefited from guidance provided by qualified dental teachers, clear demonstrations before practical tasks, and hands-on training in the dental lab. Access to course materials and one-on-one support also helped her refine specific skills and build confidence.
She quotes “I have enjoyed studying with a positive and supportive team of both teachers and students. I have felt comfortable asking questions and learning new skills. I also have appreciated the balance between online learning and the practical sessions, gaining confidence in my clinical skills especially radiography and patient care. Thank you to the wonderful caring knowledgeable Chisholm teachers”
After completing her qualification, Melanie plans to remain in her current role and apply her new skills, particularly in radiography. She is looking forward to contributing more to her team, supporting a wider range of procedures, and continuing her professional growth.
Outside of her studies and career, Melanie enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren, as well as camping, reading and travelling, especially cruises. She is passionate about her work and committed to continuing her development in the dental field.
Reflecting on her experience, Melanie describes Chisholm as a positive and supportive environment. Her studies have strengthened her confidence in clinical skills, particularly in radiography and patient care.
