After more than a decade running his own electrical business, Fabian found a new passion in training the next generation of electricians. Through Chisholm’s Quality TAFE Teacher (QTT) Program and the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, he discovered the joy of teaching and a renewed sense of purpose.
For Fabian, becoming a trainer wasn’t part of the original plan. After years of contracting, he began to feel the pull toward something different. He started looking for something that would challenge him and give him the chance to give back. When he joined the QTT Program in November 2024, the timing couldn’t have been better.
Transitioning out of his business after running it since 2010 was no small feat, but stepping into the classroom felt right from day one. Fabian loved the time he spent talking to his customers, enjoying the chance to create real connections that went beyond just business. He had a knack for conversation, and he knew that this skill would help him become a warm and friendly teacher. Just as he had built trust with his clients, he looked forward to inspiring and connecting with his students in the same way. “Helping the next generation of sparkies develop the skills our future depends on has been incredibly rewarding,” he says.
Completing the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment gave Fabian a deeper understanding of how people learn and how trainers can help them thrive. He loved the diversity of his class and embraced the challenge of creating a positive and engaging learning environment. Through mentoring support, he developed the confidence he needed as a trainer.
Now teaching the Certificate II Electrotechnology pre-apprenticeship, Fabian brings enthusiasm, empathy, and a smile to his classroom each day. He encourages teamwork, curiosity, and confidence. After he wrapped up his final class of 2025, his students surprised him with a thank‑you card signed by every one of them. The small gesture filled him with warmth and reminded him of the difference he’d made.
“I see a bright future for everyone choosing electrical as a trade,” he says. “I respect them all for taking that first step.”
Currently completing an Associate Degree in Vocational Education and Training, Fabian is focused on the growth of his students and himself. What began as a career shift has become a calling, strengthened by the supportive culture he’s found at Chisholm.
“Chisholm is on the right track,” he says proudly. “I’m grateful to be a small part of that.”
