Finding a pathway through education
James's learning journey has taken many turns, but each step has shaped the educator he is today. Now a teacher at Chisholm, he's training the next generation of early childhood educators – helping them develop skills to support young learners.
After leaving school early, James decided he wanted more options for his future. He returned to study at Chisholm, completing vocational preparation courses and his VCE before going on to complete a Diploma of Justice. But it was his Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care that set him on his true path.
James quickly found his passion in education, working in early childhood settings. He then took his next step – a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment so he could teach other adults to do the same.
"Now I get to guide others in the early childhood industry and hone their strengths and abilities. I get so much out of supporting their learning journey from start to finish."
James credits Chisholm for giving him the support he needed to succeed in his studies. His teachers not only guided him through his courses but also encouraged him to pursue teaching – recognising his potential and achievements along his unique pathway.
"If I ever struggled with any of the content or wasn't sure of something, my teachers really put their hands up and helped guide me along."
In the future, James hopes to combine his skills in justice, early learning, and teaching to support children in the judicial system, helping them build brighter futures.
