Online learning enabled Carly to pursue her dream

After 15 years in the beauty industry, Carly knew she wanted her next career chapter to be about sharing her knowledge with others. By studying the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122) through Chisholm Online, she has been able to balance recovering from an injury with study, gain new skills, and take important steps towards her dream of becoming a teacher, all without putting her life on hold.

Carly's journey into education began with her own experience as a skin clinic professional. Having struggled with severe acne in her younger years, she became fascinated by skin health and treatment options. That interest evolved into a rewarding career in the beauty industry, something she still has passion for today.

"Once I started studying beauty therapy and building my career, I realised I wanted to teach one day," Carly said. "The beauty industry is constantly evolving, and there is a lot of misinformation out there. I want to help students develop the right skills and knowledge so they have the best chance of succeeding in a skin clinic or spa environment."

When the time came to pursue her teaching qualification, flexibility was essential. Recovering from an injury meant Carly needed a study option that could fit around her changing schedule. For Carly, every week looks different, so being able to complete coursework in the mornings, evenings or on weekends has made a huge difference.

Carly credits her success to online learning, which helped her stay on track while maintaining a healthy work-life balance. While some people assume online study can feel isolating, Carly's experience has been the opposite. "I've made great connections with other students and even met up with classmates in person to complete assessments," she said.

A key part of Carly's success has been the support she has received from her teacher, Stan Thomas. "Stan is a one-of-a-kind teacher. He doesn't just teach, he guides and mentors. Whether it's answering questions, providing feedback, or helping students overcome challenges, he genuinely wants everyone to succeed,” she said.

With a strong foundation in the beauty industry and a growing passion for education, Carly is excited for what comes next. Whether that leads to training, assessing, consulting, or teaching, she knows her studies are opening doors to a wide range of rewarding career opportunities.
