Ana’s story: Receiving a scholarship gave me permission to dream again

After 25 years in food science and technology, Ana felt a deep calling for change. With a growing interest in mental health and a desire to help others, she made the courageous decision to return to study. But as a mother of two, the financial burden was daunting.

Ana enrolled in a Certificate IV in Mental Health through Free TAFE, only to discover unexpected costs for materials and fees. Overwhelmed, Ana nearly gave up – believing she couldn’t afford to both study and support her family.

Then she was referred to the Caroline Chisholm Education Foundation (CCEF) – and everything changed.

The scholarship Ana received lifted the financial pressure and gave her the freedom to focus on her studies and her children. More than just financial aid, it was a lifeline.

“CCEF gave me a desire to keep moving forward. Instead of feeling stuck, I now feel empowered to achieve my goals,” Ana said.

With renewed confidence, Ana completed her Mental Health course and enrolled in a Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping to prepare for running her own business. She’s now pursuing a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment – again with CCEF’s support.

Ana’s journey is a testament to the power of education and the generosity of donors who make it possible.

“I hope CCEF continues. It’s a lifeline for people like me who are struggling financially but keen to keep learning.” Ana said.

Thanks to CCEF’s donors, Ana is building a future where she can help others, grow her own business, and continue learning. Her story shows that with the right support, it’s never too late to start again.
