Danelle’s determination and passion led to her career change from a hairdresser to a childcare educator, which she says, ‘has made a positive impact in my life.’

As a widowed mother of seven living in regional Victoria, Danelle decided to change her career after her partner passed away.

After chatting with an educator at her son’s kindergarten, Danelle turned her life around. She took the educator’s advice and studied a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.

Danelle balances work, study and caring for her family as a single parent. Her children are proud of her for going outside her comfort zone and studying something new.

Danelle’s employer respects her dedication and passion. She helps to fill the skilled childcare workforce shortage in her town, while also educating the community on the importance of kindergarten. Her contributions have introduced improvements such as integrating more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island culture into the curriculum, including visits from Elders. With the support of her employer, Danelle plans to continue her education by studying a Diploma and then a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education.

Danelle won the 2025 Chisholm Education Awards Trainee of the Year.
