Camille’s calling: A heartfelt journey into early childhood education
Camille Gammeri always knew she was meant to work with children. But life threw her off course when health challenges and motherhood led her to pause her university studies in early childhood education. Years later, with two children and a renewed sense of purpose, Camille found her way back, thanks to Chisholm.
Her turning point came when she enrolled in Chisholm’s Certificate IV in School-Based Education Support. The classroom felt right, but her heart was with the youngest learners. That realisation led her to her local YMCA Early Childhood, where she discovered Chisholm’s Victorian Early Childhood Traineeship. It was the perfect fit; hands-on experience, tailored support, and a pathway back to her passion.
Camille dove into the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care with determination. She worked ahead, submitted assignments early, and earned praise from her teacher, Suzanne, for her motivation and organisation. When her son needed surgery, Chisholm’s flexibility made all the difference. Suzanne offered tailored help sessions, and because Camille was already ahead, she stayed on track. More than academic support, Suzanne became a sounding board for personal and workplace challenges.
Now working in the nursery room, Camille is a trusted presence for families. She shares meaningful updates, builds strong relationships, and brings empathy from her own parenting journey. One moment that stands out: a baby who struggled to settle finally engaged happily with educators. Camille captured the milestone on video, and the child’s father nearly cried. It was a small win, but one that showed the impact of her care.
Camille’s advice? “If it feels right, take the leap.” She believes the traineeship is a great way to enter the field with support and flexibility. Her goal is to complete her diploma and eventually finish her bachelor’s degree. With Chisholm behind her, she’s not just chasing a dream, she’s living it.
