From Student to Head Coach: Will’s pathway into the Fitness Industry
Will turned his passion for fitness into a rewarding and growing career in the industry he loves. He completed his Certificate III and IV in Fitness at Chisholm in 2025, along with a Certificate III in Sport and Recreation. When choosing where to study, Chisholm stood out because of its flexible approach to learning. The combination of online theory and hands-on practical training provided the perfect balance, allowing him to develop both the knowledge and real-world skills needed to succeed in the fitness sector.
One of the highlights of Will’s time at Chisholm was the supportive and engaging learning environment. He credits both his teachers and classmates for creating a positive atmosphere where students could collaborate, learn from one another and stay motivated throughout their studies. The teaching staff played an important role in his success, ensuring that students never felt alone in their learning journey and always understood what was expected of them.
"The teachers never made you feel like you were on your own," he says. "They didn't force learning on you and always made sure everyone understood where they were at."
After graduating, Will applied for multiple roles before securing a position with BFT Pakenham. Nine months later, he has progressed to become one of the gym's Head Coaches, helping members achieve their fitness goals while contributing to a strong and supportive community.
Fitness has always been Will’s passion, with interests spanning weight training, HYROX and running. Having built a career around something he genuinely enjoys, he believes Chisholm helped provide the foundation he needed to enter the industry with confidence.
He highly recommends Chisholm's fitness and sport courses to anyone considering a career in the field.
"I would definitely recommend these courses to others because they helped me create a career in the fitness industry that I love."
Looking ahead, Will plans to continue growing alongside the thriving community at BFT Pakenham while taking the next step in his professional journey by launching his own one-on-one personal training business. His advice to future students is simple: take advantage of the knowledge and experience of your teachers.
"Listen to what your teachers have to say. They have real-life experience in the industry you're trying to break into, and their advice can be invaluable."
From student to fitness professional, Will’s journey demonstrates how passion, practical training and the right support can help turn career goals into reality.
