Ursula is a fierce warrior who dedicates her career to protecting the safety and wellbeing of Victorians, particularly women and children.

With a growing interest in mental health and counselling, Ursula began this journey with the Bachelor of Community Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs at Chisholm. She credits much of her success to the personalised learning environment at Chisholm. Smaller class sizes and the genuine care shown by her lecturers helped her feel seen, supported and encouraged. This strong sense of belonging strengthened her confidence, fuelled her motivation and contributed significantly to her academic achievements.

Ursula was an active contributor in class who helped foster a positive learning environment for her peers. A strong advocate for student needs, Ursula volunteered her time for the Student Representative Council. Here, she was able to champion ways to enhance the student experience with suggested improvements to campus facilities, such as kitchen amenities and providing feedback on student programs.

Ursula’s personal experiences have played a powerful role in shaping her professional direction. As a solo parent who has navigated homelessness and recovered from a serious car accident. Rather than letting these challenges define her, she has used them to fuel her determination to reduce stigma around mental illness and support others facing difficulties.

Through her commitment and passion, Ursula achieved a significant milestone, becoming the first permanent Mental Health Key Worker in her organisation. She now works in Child Protection with the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing, where she continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families.

Looking to the future, she hopes to continue her studies with a Master of Social Work and one day teach aspiring mental health practitioners.

Reflecting on her journey, Ursula said “Chisholm helped me to grow and see that I can achieve all of my goals”.

Ursula is a finalist in the 2026 Chisholm Education Awards – Higher Education Student of the Year.
