From Passion to Practice: Nathan Ryan’s Journey into Remedial Massage

At just 22, Nathan Ryan is already building a career in the health and wellness industry, combining his passion for anatomy and sport, by helping others with the skills gained through Chisholm’s Diploma of Remedial Massage. Currently working at Peninsula Performance Physio, Nathan credits his studies with providing the clinical knowledge and confidence to excel in the workplace.

Nathan chose Chisholm after speaking with educator Jasmine Bannard about his future study options.

“She told me about the program at Chisholm and from then on I saw this as one of the best decisions for my educational pathway.”

A self-described anatomy enthusiast, Nathan says the highlight of the course has been learning how the body works and being able to apply that knowledge in practical settings.

“Doing all this learning and then following it up with the practical skills on how to treat these dysfunctions was amazing.”

Prior to studying remedial massage, Nathan completed a Certificate III in Sport and Recreation and a Certificate III in Hospitality. He believes the diploma will have the biggest impact on his future because it aligns closely with his career goals

Nathan says the support of Chisholm’s Remedial Massage teaching team played a key role in his success.

“Whenever I would struggle to understand some questions, the teachers were always there to lift me up.”

With ambitions to complete a Certificate IV in Fitness and eventually establish a holistic treatment clinic, Nathan is focused on helping people perform at their best. His long-term dream is to work with AFLW athletes, either within a club environment or through his own practice

For anyone considering a career in massage, Nathan shares a piece of advice that has stayed with him throughout his studies:

“Always be curious. Do it because you want to learn something new every day, and because you want to become a stronger individual.”

Nathan describes his time at Chisholm as both rewarding and inspiring noting

” The quality of learning and the depth of teaching is noncomparable to other educational providers. The curated minds who structure the course have made it in such a way that even physio’s that I work with currently a surprised by how much clinical expertise I am able to provide to the detail provided in the course”
