Pakeza is using her passion for IT to help others
Pakeza's passion for technology has taken her across countries and into a new chapter of study at Chisholm. Now studying the Bachelor of Information Technology, she is building her skills, confidence and connections.
For as long as she can remember, Pakeza has been passionate about technology and learning. Having previously studied computer science in Afghanistan, she was excited to pursue the future she had always imagined when she moved to Australia. 'I've always wanted to continue my studies,' Pakeza says.
Choosing Chisholm was an easy decision. The location close to home, flexible class times and strong reputation made it the ideal place to begin her journey. When selecting a course, Pakeza was immediately interested in Free TAFE.When Pakeza discovered that her tuition fees would be covered through Free TAFE, studying suddenly felt more accessible and within reach. She first completed the Certificate IV in Cyber Security before progressing directly into the Bachelor of Information Technology (Cyber Security), where she is now in her second semester.
While degree-level study has brought new challenges, Pakeza embraces the opportunity to push herself further. 'The degree takes more time, study and research, but I enjoy working hard and learning new things,' she says.
Pakeza has made the most of her time at Chisholm, both in and out of the classroom. Practical assignments have allowed her to develop hands-on skills, while time spent in the library has helped her stay focused and connected with fellow students. She regularly studies with classmates, sharing ideas and supporting one another through projects and assignments.
The diversity of the student community has also been a highlight. 'I've met people from many different cultures and learned a lot from them,' she says.
Pakeza has also chosen to give back to the Chisholm community by applying for a support volunteer role. She will assist new students in setting up their computers and answers questions about campus life. She enjoys making others feel welcome as they begin their own study journey.
Looking ahead, Pakeza hopes to build a career in cyber security, helping businesses protect themselves from online threats. In the long term, she wishes to complete a PhD and make a meaningful difference in the cyber security industry.
