After building a rewarding career spanning 30 years in design studios and advertising agencies, Carolyn decided she wanted to give back to the industry and inspire the next generation of graphic design professionals. So, she took the bold leap to become a vocational teacher.

Teaching in the Diploma of Graphic Design, Carolyn recognises that students learn in different ways. She incorporates a variety of teaching methods to keep learners engaged, including live demonstrations, gamified activities and real‑world design experiences. By building rapport and encouraging creativity through fun, she creates a learning environment where students thrive.

Her commitment to student success extends outside the classroom. Carolyn closely monitors student engagement, checks in regularly and offers support when it’s needed. She champions workplace readiness by integrating industry tools such as Figma. Carolyn also led Chisholm’s involvement in the RE:ACT road safety initiative that gave her students an opportunity to work on a real-life project.

Under her leadership, these innovations have contributed to strong graduate outcomes. Carolyn inspires students to aim high, with many securing roles in high-profile organisations, like the AFL.

As an active member of the Australian Graphic Design Association and a graphic design business owner, Carolyn bridges the gap between vocational education and professional practice. Her commitment helps foster a thriving creative community across Melbourne’s southeast.

“I have had so many good experiences, I want to share that and contribute to somebody else's journey,” said Carolyn.

Carolyn is a finalist in the 2026 Chisholm Education Awards – Educator of the Year.
