For interested trainees

As a trainee, you will complete a Certificate III Early Childhood Education and Care qualification, under the Free TAFE program, whilst you undertake a paid traineeship in an Early Childhood service.

Through this ‘earn and learn’ model, you will get be able to gain a qualification and earn an income whilst receiving wrap-around support from a team of Early Childhood Education Teachers to help you succeed.

This unique traineeship program includes:

  • A total of $4,000 in milestone based training support payments*
  • A $2,500 Australian Apprentice Training Support Payment (AATSP)*
    *conditions apply
  • Mentoring on the job by experienced Early Childhood Educators
  • Working in an early childhood service close to home
  • Earning an income
  • Studying a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care qualification in a supported TAFE environment
  • Gaining a nationally recognised qualification for free
  • And having lots of fun along the way!

As a trainee you will be matched with a local TAFE and matched to a centre close to home.

Are you currently looking for staff? Are you tired of relying on agency staff? Are you struggling with your casual budget? 

The new program will prioritise early childhood services in Victoria that will offer funded kindergarten programs with the opportunity to engage one or more trainees to support you with affordable staffing next year.

There are new and improved incentives to make trainees the ideal option:

  • Services can receive up to $12,000 (max of $1,500 per quarter) in wage subsidies per trainee over the duration of time it takes a trainee to complete their Certificate III (maximum of two years) under the Commonwealth’s Australian Apprenticeships Incentive System (AAIS). Eligible regionally and remote based services can receive an additional top up wage subsidy of 5 per cent per trainee under the Commonwealth’s Regional Apprenticeship Boost scheme.
  • Ongoing mentoring, professional development and training for your existing workforce to upskill them in working with trainees  
  • Program support to enable you to provide adequate supervision and mentoring to trainees on-the-job

We will find job-ready trainees for you, so you won't need to do any advertising yourself. The trainees will undertake the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care to enhance their learnings, and provide you with a soon-to-be qualified educators.

Trainees gain practical skills and a nationally recognised qualification while working in your early childhood centre, solving your staff needs and contributing valuable skills to your workplace.

This funded program is for a short period of time and has limited places.
