Turning Passion into a Career: Mark’s Journey in Nail Technology

For Mark, choosing a career in nail technology was about more than learning a trade. It was about finding something he genuinely loves doing every day. At 22, Mark is already building a successful career in the beauty industry while studying the Certificate III in Nail Technology at Chisholm, proving that passion and determination can take you a long way.

Mark chose Chisholm for a simple reason: it was the most convenient option for him. What he didn't expect was how much the experience would shape his future and help him grow both professionally and personally. One of the standout parts of his journey has been the support he received from his teacher, Holly Browne. Mark describes Holly as one of the best teachers he has ever had, praising not only her talent and expertise but also the way she created an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

"I could have asked any question, big or small, and if I wasn't comfortable, Holly made sure I would be."

That encouragement gave Mark the confidence to develop his skills and pursue opportunities in the industry while still studying. His hard work soon paid off. Mark became the first student in his class to secure employment in the nail industry before completing his course, earning special recognition from Holly for achieving his goal so early in his training.

Since starting work at a nail studio in Brighton, Mark says his growth has been remarkable. The combination of hands-on work and classroom learning has strengthened both his technical skills and confidence.

"Since working there, there has been so much growth in my skill and confidence."

While he values everything he has learned at Chisholm, Mark says gaining real-world industry experience has been invaluable in helping him take the next steps in his career. Looking ahead, Mark has big ambitions. His dream is to one day open his own studio, giving him the freedom to shape his own career and create a business that reflects his creativity and passion. Beyond professional success, he hopes to build a life that offers freedom, balance and opportunity.

When asked what advice he would give to others considering a career in beauty services, his answer is immediate.

For Mark, the beauty industry has provided more than a job. It has given him a career he genuinely enjoys, opportunities to keep growing, and a future he is excited to build.
