Driven to make a difference in mental health

Jessie didn’t always think she could do it. She worried she was past the point of starting something new. But with support from her husband, she took a chance – enrolling in a Certificate IV in Mental Health CHC43315 at Chisholm.

That first step changed everything, sparking a desire to keep learning and advancing her skills to help others. She went on to complete a Diploma of Counselling CHC51015 and the Bachelor of Psychology CRS1401150, achieving top marks along the way.

“I’m really rewards-based, so I like to go one step at a time – it seems more achievable.”

For Jessie, the support from her teachers and the structure of her learning pathway have been invaluable. Studying at Chisholm has given her the confidence and skills to pursue her passion for helping others.

“The pathway has helped me decide where I’m going next in my career, as well as giving me tools to use in my current job.”

Working as a student wellbeing counsellor, Jessie is dedicated to supporting children and making a real impact on the lives of vulnerable young people as early as possible.

“I’m a really big believer in early intervention. I think it gives kids access to support they wouldn’t have ever had before, and we can give them coping strategies they can take with them into high school and then adulthood.”

Since graduating, Jessie has been accepted into the 2026 Honours program in Psychology at Federation University. She credits the support and teaching she received during her degree with preparing her for the next step.

“I feel really prepared for the challenges this year because of the knowledge and guidance from the psychology team teaching in the Bachelor at Chisholm.”
