Kalilou knew from an early age that he would study the Certificate III in Heavy Mechanical Technologies. His older brothers were truck drivers and Kalilou would hear their stories of trucks breaking down.
Kalilou realised the importance of talented and reliable mechanics in the world of logistics. He now works as a heavy vehicle apprentice and wants to make a ‘real difference in the industry.’
During his studies, Kalilou was often praised for his eye for detail, enthusiasm for learning and strong work ethic. He completed every task to a high standard and bought his own textbooks to further his learning and have reliable reference materials on hand. Kalilou actively engaged in coursework and asked insightful questions. He created cheat sheets for every unit, laminated them and kept them in his toolbox at work for quick reference. Even though Kalilou faced challenges at home, he remained committed to his education and career. He frequently spent weekends in Sydney due to family health issues, but this never affected his study or work.
Kalilou has the potential to lead a team or manage a workshop. He always created a strong sense of community around him. He was respected by his peers and instructors, and enjoyed working with others on projects.
His goal is to open his own mechanical workshop, aiming to help drivers stay safe on the road.
Kalilou won the 2025 Bill Norling Outstanding Automotive Apprentice Award.
