Determining your parent's citizenship if you were born on or after 20 August 1986 and are applying for a VET Student Loan

Use the below questionnaire to determine if you must provide your parent's birth certificate, drivers licence or Australian citizenship certificate. If you require further help, you can call us on 1300 244 746.

2. Were your parents (or the one born in Australia) born on or before 19/08/1986?

Go to Q3.

3. Does your parent's age or date of birth display on your Australian birth certificate?

Not required to provide parent's date of birth.  Continue with the application.

You must confirm your parent's date of birth by providing:

  • Your parent's Australian birth certificate (not birth extract) or
  • Your parent's drivers licence or
  • Your parent's Australian Passport.

4. Were your parents (or the one born in Australia) born on or after 20/08/1986?

You must confirm your parent's date of birth by providing:

  • Your parent's Australian birth certificate (not birth extract) or
  • Your parent's Australian citizenship certificate.

5. Were your parents (or one of them) an Australian Citizen on or before your birth?

You must confirm your parent's Australian Citizenship by providing:

  • Your parent's Australian birth certificate (not birth extract) or
  • Your parent's Australian citizenship certificate.

You will need to provide further evidence to confirm you are an Australian citizen. You can do so by lodging Form 119 Application for evidence of Australian Citizenship. Once your application has been finalised you will need to provide the final outcome to Chisholm.
