Short course in perming: Curl and volumise with chemical treatments

This specialised short course is designed for qualified or near-qualified hairdressers who wish to upskill in the area of perming to create texture in the hair. Students will learn to consult with clients, assess hair condition, and apply chemical treatments to add curl or body to short and medium-length hair.

The course focuses on practical techniques and client management, and is ideal for those in the final year of an apprenticeship or currently undertaking a hairdressing or barbering qualification.

Students must have strong foundational skills and a sound understanding of hair structure and chemistry. Practical experience in sectioning, winding, and basin services is essential.

Before attending your first class, you will be required to complete some pre-reading and theoretical components to ensure you have the underpinning foundational knowledge needed to succeed in the course. Once enrolled, you'll gain access to our eLearning resources.

After successfully completing this unit of competency you will be able to:
• Consult with client to assess hair
• Implement design element and principles to enhance the style
• Select appropriate products and prepare for service
• Apply chemical reformation products
• Rinse, neutralise and condition hair
• Review service and provide home care advice

Assessment requirements include: Quiz, Assignment and Practical models.

Students will be required to complete four perming services on live models, which you will need to provide.
The four services must be completed and assessed across a range of hair types and lengths.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive a statement of attainment for the nationally accredited unit of competency.
