Jewellery Making: Build-Up Wax Ring in Sterling Silver

Design and create your own sculptural sterling silver ring in this hands-on, creative short course.

Discover the magic of lost wax casting in this beginner-friendly workshop where you’ll shape and build your ring in jeweller’s wax before it is professionally cast in sterling silver. Held in a relaxed and supportive environment, this course is perfect for anyone wanting to explore a more organic, sculptural approach to jewellery making.

Across two sessions, you’ll experience the full creative process — from carving and building your design in wax, through to refining and finishing your completed sterling silver ring.

In this workshop, you’ll learn:

• How to design and plan a wearable ring form

• Build-up wax techniques to sculpt and shape your design

• Carving and refining wax for clean, intentional forms

• Preparing your piece for casting

• Sanding and refining cast sterling silver

• Filing, smoothing and polishing to a professional finish

During the first session, you’ll create your ring in wax and prepare it for casting. Your design will then be professionally cast in sterling silver.
In the second session, you’ll learn how to sand, refine and polish your silver ring to bring out its final form and shine.

With guidance from our experienced facilitator, you’ll have the freedom to create a piece that reflects your own style — whether bold and sculptural or simple and organic.

You’ll also receive helpful notes and a supplier list so you can continue exploring lost wax techniques beyond the course.

• Includes: Wax, casting in sterling silver (up to specified weight), all tools and safety equipment provided (safety glasses + apron).
