Equitable learning and disability support

Our Equitable Leaning and Disability Support Advisors work with students and teaching areas to create a Learning Access Plan that is tailored to you, your support needs, and your course.

If you are a student with a disability, long-term illness, mental health condition, or are a primary carer of an individual with a disability, you can apply for support through the Equitable Learning and Disability Support team.

We encourage you to get in touch with us as soon as you can after enrolling so that we can help organise support. Examples of support could include:

• in-class reasonable adjustments
• assistive technology
• alternative formats of learning materials
• Auslan interpreters

Process to register for support:

1. You will fill in the Registration Form and Consent for Provision of Information Form (linked below)
2. You will gather some medical documentation confirming your diagnosis/diagnoses
3. You will send all of these documents (along with your timetable, if you have it) to disabilitysupport@chisholm.edu.au, or bring it in to our Frankston or Dandenong Student Support Hubs
4. We will be in touch via phone or email to arrange an appointment to meet with you and discuss your support needs
5. Your first appointment will take place – it might be face-to-face at one of our support hubs, over the phone, or via Zoom.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

• I don’t have a diagnosis, can I still talk to someone about my support needs?

  If you don’t have a medical diagnosis or have some questions, you can book in with team to have an initial chat. Appointments are 20 minutes and can be booked by calling 1300 244 746(option 4).

• I’m not currently a student, can I still talk to someone about my support needs?

  If you have some questions about the support we can provide after you enrol with Chisholm, you can book in with team to have an initial chat. Appointments are 20 minutes and can be booked by calling 1300 244 746(option 4).

• What documentation do I need to supply when I register?

  You will need to provide relevant medical documentation from a recognised health professional who has comprehensive training and experience in the relevant field of disability or health.

• What if I am a carer for a person with a disability, long term illness and/or mental health condition?

  We encourage carers to register for support, and recommend you book in an appointment with our team to discuss your support needs. At your appointment, your Advisor will discuss your situation and advise of any reasonable adjustments that can be made.

• Can I get assistance to complete the registration forms?

  We are happy to support you completing the registration process. Please contact us and let us know if you require support completing these forms.
