Victoria’s food and beverage industry is celebrated worldwide, attracting both local and international attention. To address the skilled labour shortage in Victoria’s hospitality sector, the Victorian TAFE Network, in partnership with Chisholm is offering a unique Hospitality Scholarship program. This program creates exciting career opportunities across regional and metropolitan Victoria, with Chisholm’s training preparing students to step straight into the workforce and make an impact.

Scholarship value 

Each successful applicant receives a scholarship valued at $10,000. 

The scholarship is paid at specific times during your course: 

  • $3,300: Paid after starting your course, after the course census date, or within 11 weeks of starting your course with a satisfactory (80%) attendance. 
  • $3,300: Paid approximately at the midway point of your course. 
  • $3,400: Paid when you complete your course, after receiving your statement of attainment and completing a post-course survey. 

Application dates 

You can apply for the Hospitality Scholarship program twice a year: 

  • Semester 1: Applications are open between November to January. 
  • Semester 2: Applications are open between May to June. 

Eligibility 

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

  • have an intention to enrol and complete one of the eligible courses at Chisholm: 
  • SIT30821 - Certificate IV in Kitchen Management*^ 
  • SIT40521 - Certificate III in Commercial Cookery*^ 
  • show ambition and willingness to work (or have worked) in the hospitality sector.
  • have not previously received a Victorian TAFE Network Hospitality Scholarship.
  • be an Australian citizen, permanent resident of Australia, or hold a permanent Humanitarian visa and have the legal right to work in Australia.

How scholarships are awarded 

Scholarships may be awarded based on merit or equity considerations. Depending on your circumstances, you may need to provide supporting documentation with your application. 

Merit-based applications 

Show your academic and/or hospitality workplace excellence through the following: 

  • Academic excellence, demonstrated by results from previous or current studies (ATAR, Year 10/11 VET or other TAFE results) 
  • Workplace excellence in hospitality, supported by a brief employer recommendation (up to 200 words) explaining your strengths in the hospitality environment and how this training will benefit you in the workplace. 

Equity-based applications 

Show financial and/or educational disadvantage through the following: 

  • A disadvantaged financial background. 
  • Currently living in or planning to move to a rural or regional area. 
  • Are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. 
  • Have a disability, long term medical illness or mental health condition. 
  • Experiencing difficult circumstances. 

You may be required to provide supporting documents such as Centrelink statements, bank statements, wage slips, or a letter from a caseworker or medical professional, depending on your situation.
