  Throughout the program, you’ll learn more about best practice and quality assurance; planning for children with additional needs; networking; effective communication; family partnerships; childhood development (aesthetic, creative, physical); music programs; and health and safety.
  
  Chisholm specify important requirements for students that they need to understand before they can undertake the course. These include:
  Physical:
  • stand, walk or move across spaces for prolonged periods (more than 30 minutes) to support the needs of children.
  • lift, hold or assist infants, toddlers and children of varying size and capability (i.e. bottle feeding, nappy change, support children in climbing)
  • squatting &/or getting down on the floor (at the child’s level) to support and engage.
  • provide basic cleaning duties including but not limited to, wiping down surfaces, mopping, using cleaning products.
  • be physically capable of engaging with children, families, and colleagues for a maximum 7.5 hours per day, up to 5 days per week.
  • be physically capable of sustaining CPR for at least two (2) minutes on the floor.
  Interpersonal:
  • strong abilities in reading, writing and oral English language communication.
  • an ability to constructively give and receive critical feedback.
  • an ability to follow and provide verbal and written instructions.
  • an ability to interpret private information and maintain confidentiality.
  • emotional flexibility and stability to cater to the varying needs of children and families.
  • ability to handle general stressors (meeting deadlines, task management, managing expectation, etc.)
  Cognitive:
  • basic computer literacy, including but not limited to the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), email functions, internet browsing and other general computer functions.

• Admission requirements

  Admission requirements are completion of BKSB assessment with an outcome of ACSF exit level 3 - working level 4, for both literacy and numeracy, Applicants must be 17 years and 3 months, of school leaving age or have a transition from school form, Applications must first complete the CHC30113 or CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care and on completion will continue into the Diploma qualification, Complete a induction session and selection interview, have parental agreement for students under 18 years of age, Students must complete a minimum of 280 hour work placement as this is a requirement of the course, trainees must have a Registered Training Agreement with their employer.
