This course is for experienced trades people who need to pass an external exam in a welding process to Australian standards 1796. To undertake this course, you will have previously attained 40 hours of training and attempted the weld test once prior.
Practical Training
Prerequisite for this course is the SC280 AS1796 welding ticket course. During the course, you’ll nominate a specific welding ticket to focus on, with the following available:
Ticket 1: MMAW on carbon steel plates with rutile & general-purpose electrodes. Welding positions: PC (2G), PE (4G), PB (2F), PF (3F).
Ticket 2: MMAW on carbon steel pipes with rutile & general-purpose electrodes. Welding positions: PC (2G), PH (5G).
Ticket 3E: MMAW on alloy steel plates with low hydrogen electrodes. Welding positions: PC (2G), PE (4G), PB (2F), PF (3F).
Ticket 4: MMAW on alloy steel pipes with low hydrogen electrodes. Welding positions: PC (2G), PH (5G).
Ticket 5: Gas tungsten-arc welding (GTAW) for root run and MMAW using hydrogen-controlled electrodes on alloy steel pipes. Welding positions: PC (2G), PH (5G).
Ticket 6: Oxy acetylene welding on carbon steel pipes. Welding positions: PC (2G), PH (5G).
Ticket 7: GTAW on carbon steel pipes. Welding positions: PC (2G), PH (5G).
Ticket 8G: Gas metal-arc welding (GMAW) on carbon steel plates & pipes. Welding positions: PC (2G), PA (1G), PB (2F), PF (3F).
Ticket 8F: Flux-cored arc welding (FCAW) on carbon steel plates & pipes. Welding positions: PC (2G), PA (1G), PB (2F), PF (3F).
Ticket 9: Submerged arc welding (SAW) on carbon steel plates. Welding position: PA (1G).
Key
PA(1G) = Flat butt weld
PC(2G) = Horizontal butt weld
PE(4G) = Overhead butt weld
PB(2F) = Horizontal fillet weld
PF(3F) =Vertical fillet weld
PH(5G) = Multiple position butt weld
All materials used during the course will be mild steel 250 grade.
Entry Requirements
To enrol, you’ll need to meet one of the following criteria:
With Trade Certificate:150 hours of documented welding experience.
Without Trade Certificate: 300 hours of documented welding experience.
(Evidence of experience can be provided via a certified employer letter detailing your welding work, including the process, types of joints, material thicknesses, and welding positions.)
AND
You will need to provide your 40-hour statement of training from an RTO.
