Change of visa status

If you obtain permanent residence during the semester, you will continue to be classified as an international student and charged the international fees for that semester. A full refund of international fees will apply to fees paid in advance for the following semester.

Australian Permanent Resident status is recognised from the date that the permanent residency visa was granted, not the date on which the permanent residency application was made.

Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485)

These visas let you live and work in Australia temporarily after you have finished your studies. There are two types:

  • Graduate Work stream – for international students who graduate from a diploma or advanced diploma that meets the Australian standard for an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List. This type of visa is granted for 18 months.
  • Post-Study Work stream – for international students who were granted their first Student visa to Australia on, or after, 5 November 2011. This visa can be granted for up to four years, depending on the qualification. You must be in Australia when you apply for this visa and when your visa is decided.

The Employer Nomination Scheme allows employers in Australia to employ people from overseas who may already be in Australia.

Your Chisholm qualification can provide you with the training you need to be employed as a qualified worker as listed on the Consolidated Sponsored Occupation List.  People can apply for this visa if they have been nominated by an approved Australian employer, are under 50 years of age and meet the skills, qualifications and English language requirements. Visit the Department of Home Affairs for updates.
