  Graduates of the Certificate III in Individual Support can work in roles such as that of personal care assistant, home care worker, respite care worker, disability support worker, aged care assistant, school support officer (disability), disability service officer, community access coordinator, accommodation support worker, family support worker and transport support worker.
  
  FURTHER STUDY AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT
  A Certificate III qualification is a great starting point! And, once you've completed your Certificate III in Individual Support, you could extend your skills by studying Chisholm’s Certificate IV in Ageing Support CHC43015 or Certificate IV in Disability Support CHC43021 - also tuition free as part of the Free TAFE Priority Pathways initiative. You could also study a range of other allied health or community services courses. Other options include specialising in specific aspects of aged care or disability support with short courses in dementia care or mental health support, or further professional development in social inclusion.

  In the Certificate III in Individual Support, you'll be learning from experienced teachers with industry experience—whether as support workers, aged care workers or senior community services managers. From them, you'll gain a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as really understand the theories behind the concepts and practices of how to provide person-centred support.

  INHERENT REQUIREMENTS OF THE CERTIFICATE III IN INDIVIDUAL SUPPORT
  
  Core skills required for this course: literacy and numeracy range from levels two to three.
  
  Students must be seventeen (17) years and nine (9) months of age at course commencement and must be eighteen (18) years of age at the commencement of placement.
  Physical:
  - Stand and / or walk for prolonged periods (over 30 minutes) of time when working within a care role, and ability to perform CPR for a specified time.
  - Lift and or assist in the movement / of a patient(s) of varying size and capacity
  - Provide basic cleaning duties including but not limited to, wiping down surfaces, mopping, carrying cleaning products of varying weights including buckets, cleaning agents and other pieces of equipment between locations and ability to operate a step ladder safely.
  
  Cognitive:
  - Robust interpersonal skills including written, verbal and non-verbal practices.
  - Ability to take and provide structured critical feedback as well as follow basic instructions both written and verbal.
  - Learners must instil sound bedside manners including personal hygiene and general sense for infection control and general WHS practices
  - Learners must have basic computer literacy, including but not limited to the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), email functions, internet browsing and other general computer functions
  - Ability to utilise industry based online platforms and or patient management software.
  
  Emotional:
  - Emotional flexibility and stability to cater for varying patient needs and the ability to handle general stressors (meeting deadlines, managing expectations, task management, etc.).
  
  Practical Placement:
  All students entering the course must be aware that to complete the course, including the attendance of any associated practical placements, they must obtain the following prior to practical placement:
  - A valid Working with Children Check
  - A clear national police check
  - Required immunisations to undertake practical placement.
  
  Upon completing the CHC33021 course at Chisholm Institute, learners have various study pathways available to them, including:
  
  - Further Education: Graduates can pursue higher-level courses within aged care and disability, such as advanced diplomas or bachelor's degrees in related disciplines, to deepen their knowledge and skills.
  - Employment: With the CHC33021 qualification, learners are prepared to enter the workforce as aged care or disability support professionals. They can seek employment in residential care facilities, community organizations, and home-based care services.
  - Specialisation: Learners can undertake additional short courses or workshops to specialise in areas like dementia care, mental health support, or specialised communication techniques.
  - Professional Development: Ongoing professional development through workshops, seminars, and conferences is crucial. This helps graduates stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes.
  - Research and Advocacy: Some graduates may pursue research or advocacy roles within aged care and disability sectors, contributing to policy development, conducting research studies, or working with advocacy organizations.

• Admission requirements

  Admission requirements are completion of BKSB assessment with an outcome of ACSF exit level 2 - working level 3, for both literacy and numeracy, Applicants must complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) test, students need to be at a minimum age of 17 upon enrolment, with the expectation of turning 18 by the end of that enrolling calendar year, trainees must have a Registered Training Agreement with their employer.
