Advance your skills to work in the aged care sector

This qualification reflects the role of support workers who complete specialised tasks and functions in aged services; either in residential, home or community-based environments. Workers will take responsibility for their own outputs within defined organisation guidelines and maintain quality service delivery through the development, facilitation and review of individualised service planning and delivery.

The course curriculum covers a range of topics related to ageing support and care. These include:
• Person-Centered Care: Understanding the principles of person-centered care and its significance in providing tailored support to meet the unique needs and preferences of each elderly individual.
• Health and Wellbeing: Exploring the physical and mental health needs of the elderly, including strategies to promote healthy aging, manage chronic conditions, and address cognitive and sensory impairments.
• Communication: Developing effective communication skills to establish positive interactions with elderly clients, their families, and healthcare professionals. This includes active listening, empathy, and clear communication techniques.
• Support for Independent Living: Learning strategies to support elderly individuals in maintaining their independence and quality of life. This involves assisting with activities of daily living, mobility, and personal care.
• Legal and Ethical Considerations: Understanding the legal and ethical framework within which aged care operates, including confidentiality, privacy, and duty of care.
• Dementia Care: Gaining insights into dementia-related conditions, their impact on individuals, and approaches to provide person-centered care for those living with dementia.
• Cultural Competence: Recognizing and respecting the diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs of elderly clients and ensuring culturally sensitive care.
• Palliative Care: Acquiring knowledge about providing care to individuals in their final stages of life, including pain management, emotional support, and maintaining dignity.

The CHC43015 qualification is structured to include a combination of theoretical learning and practical experience through workplace-based training or simulated environments. Upon successful completion of the CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support, graduates will be equipped with the skills to work as aged care workers, personal care assistants, community care workers, and other roles that involve supporting the elderly population.
