Who can I talk to during my application process?

All queries in relation to your application should be directed to the contact person specified in the job advertisement.

All other queries should be emailed to pcsops@chisholm.edu.au.

Can I save my application and return later?

You can save your unfinished application at any stage before the job closes and return later via the jobs list home page.

Can I submit a late application?

It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that their application is received by the nominated closing date and time.

Once this time has expired, you will no longer have access to your on-line application.

What do I need to include in my application?

Chisholm places significant emphasis on the position description, which describes the qualifications and experience required of the position.

In completing your online application, where requested please provide a brief covering letter detailing your qualifications and experience that best relate to the requirements of the advertised role.

You must also upload a copy of your resume, saved as a Microsoft Word document. For teaching positions, please ensure you also upload certified copies of your Teaching and Vocational Qualifications.

Recruitment process

Steps of the recruitment process for a successful applicant

  • Step one: Submit online application.
  • Step two: First round interview. There may be a second round of interviews for some positions.
  • Step three: Testing (if applicable).
  • Step four: Referee checks.
  • Step five: Offer.
What happens after I submit my application?

As an applicant you will receive an electronic (email) acknowledgement once a completed application has been submitted. 

We have large responses to many of our vacancies so thank you for being patient with us while we review your application. You can expect us to contact you within three weeks of the application closing date.

If you are selected for an interview you will receive a call and you will be advised of a day, time and location. Unsuccessful applicants will be notified by email.

What is the interview process?

The selection panel is responsible for shortlisting the applicants and conducting the interviews.

  • You will be notified in advance if there are any tests you need to complete or assessment centres you need to attend.
  • There will usually be two or more people on the interview panel.
  • The interview is usually around 45 minutes - one hour in duration.
  • The interview questions will be related to the role. There will be an opportunity for you to ask questions.
  • You will be contacted by email or phone about the outcome of your interview.

What is the reference checking process and how many referees do I need to provide?

As part of their resume, applicants should state the name, address, telephone number and current position of at least three people who have agreed to act as professional referees. 

Written references, although not required at the time of application, may be included if desired. However, we will still want to talk with your referees. 

The Institute reserves the right to contact one or more of the listed referees, as appropriate. If we want to talk to your referees, we will ask you first.

What happens when you are successful?

If you meet all pre-employment requirements, you will receive a written offer of employment via a notification email. This will include instructions to guide you through the process of accepting your offer and preparing for your onboarding.

We will be in touch with you to arrange your first day with us and run you through the details of our induction program.

What happens when you are not successful?

If your application is not successful, you will receive an email advising that your application will not be progressing to the next stage.

Does Chisholm have an agreement in place?

Chisholm has two different Enterprise Agreements:

Teaching, Training and Educators are covered by the Victorian TAFE Teaching Staff Agreement 2018 (PDF - 3.08MB).

Professional and support staff are covered by Chisholm Institute of TAFE Professional Staff Enterprise Agreement 2018 (PDF - 3.6MB).

All Chisholm employees are to abide by the policies, procedures and agreements.

Is there a probation period?

Employment will be subject to the satisfactory completion of an appropriate probationary period.

How is my personal information protected?

Chisholm appreciates the importance of protecting personal and/or health information. Chisholm respects an individual’s right to privacy and complies with the Commonwealth Privacy Act 1988, Victorian Information Privacy Act 2000 and the Victorian Health Records Act 2001.

How do I set up a job email alert?

Accessed through our careers pages on the internet, you can register and create and account. This enables you to search jobs using keywords, department, business area and the location where you want to work. You can also personalise your preferences relating to alert frequency and receive these via SMS or email.

Requirements for a role at Chisholm

What you are required to demonstrate and provide for a teaching role at Chisholm

All candidates applying for a teaching role at Chisholm are required to provide evidence of their vocational competency and industry professional teaching currency to deliver and assess an endorsed or accredited unit of competency.

What checks are required to work at Chisholm?

VIT registration check

A teacher who is currently registered with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) will need to provide sighted evidence of the registration, although a current VIT registration is not compulsory for all teaching positions at Chisholm. If you do not hold a VIT registration, or your VIT registration is suspended or cancelled, you must apply for an Employee Working with Children Check.

Working with Children Check

  • In our commitment to being a child safe organisation and in accordance with legislative requirements, employment at Chisholm will require confirmation of the following:
  • a valid Employee Working with Children Check card; or
  • evidence that you are exempt from a Working with Children Check.

Information regarding the Working with Children Check may be obtained from the Victorian Department of Justice website at www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au.

If you already hold a valid Working with Children card, you are required to notify the Department of Justice within 21 days of employment at Chisholm that you have commenced work with a new organisation.

Police check

As part of our fraud and ethics management strategy, the Institute may also require employees who perform certain functions within the Institute to complete a National Police Record Check.

Do I need to provide certified copies of my qualifications?

All relevant qualifications obtained should be listed and described in the resume. Applicants must provide certified copies of the stated qualifications together with academic records. Qualifications obtained overseas need to be assessed against the Overseas Skills guidelines.

Do I need to be eligible to work in Australia to gain employment at Chisholm?

Offers of Employment will be subject to verification of citizenship, immigration status and consequent entitlement to work legally in Australia. Applicants must be permitted to work in Australia on an unrestricted basis.

What information do I need to disclose to Chisholm?

Chisholm requests the true and complete disclosure of any circumstances regarding health or capacity to work that would impede your ability to perform the duties of the position.
