Whether you're a Chisholm student, an employee or a visitor, you deserve to feel safe, respected and supported on campus. That's why we have a range of services, policies and procedures designed to help create a secure and welcoming environment across all our locations.

Security on campus

Our dedicated Security Services team is always here to help. They're your first point of contact in an emergency and a visible presence across all our campuses. From day-to-day support to urgent situations, you can count on them to respond quickly and professionally.

The all-campus phone number for the security team is 1300 582 483. All calls to this number are recorded for quality assurance. It’s a good idea to keep our security phone number handy – save it in your phone or access it via the myChisholm app.

Campus security is available when you:

  • need first aid
  • feel unsafe
  • notice someone else feeling unsafe
  • need an escort to walk you across campus or to your car
  • need to report any suspicious behaviour
  • want to report a hazard or incident.

If there is an emergency and no time to wait for campus security, call 000 to reach the police, fire or ambulance services. Then advise a Chisholm employee or campus security and ensure you are out of harm’s way.

Evacuations

Evacuation plans showing emergency exits and assembly areas are located in the common areas of each building.

An alert tone followed by an evacuation tone will sound through the alarm system to signal an evacuation. The emergency warden will guide you when it’s time to leave. Follow the instructions, stay calm, and prioritise your safety.

Respectful, safe and supported learning

As a Chisholm student, your physical and emotional wellbeing is important to us. We're committed to providing a safe, inclusive and positive experience for everyone.

If you experience any kind of bullying, harassment, discrimination, aggression or inappropriate behaviour – either in person or online – we want to know. If you see it happening to someone else, we want to hear from you, too. Our Student Support and Engagement team is here to listen, help and take action where needed.

Get in touch with Student Support and Engagement: Call 1300 244 746 (option 4) or email studentservices@chisholm.edu.au.

Everyone in our community has a responsibility to treat others with respect. Behaviour that goes against this standard may be addressed in line with our Student Code of Conduct.

Equipment safety on campus

Before using any IT or technical equipment on campus, make sure you know how it works. If you're unsure how to log in, print, or use a device, just ask – teachers, librarians, and IT Support are all here to help.

Get assistance from our Library and Learning Centres here.

The same goes for any training tools or specialist equipment. Always follow your teacher's instructions, read any safety information provided, and use the required safety gear – including protective clothing, gloves, eye and face protection, and PPE when needed. If you're ever unsure, ask first.

Pay attention to warning signs, and never interfere with equipment in classrooms, workshops, salons, kitchens or any other learning spaces on campus.

Cyber safety

Cyber security is about keeping people, systems, networks and information safe from digital threats. These threats – or cyberattacks – often aim to steal or damage personal data, disrupt online services, or scam individuals for money.

Cyber threats can affect both your learning and your personal life. That's why it's important we all do our part to keep your information and Chisholm's systems safe.

Health and safety communications

We'll send any urgent health or safety updates directly to your nominated mobile number via SMS and to your student email account. Make it a habit to check your student email regularly – it's the best way to stay on top of important Chisholm updates.

Essential messages may also be shared through the myChisholm app, so keeping your notifications on is a good idea.

If something impacts your classes directly, your teacher or course area may contact you through your student email, the myChisholm app or Markbook to let you know about any changes.

You can also stay informed through Chisholm's social media channels, digital screens around campus, and the weekly Student News email – keep an eye out so you don't miss a thing.
