About new business assistance with NEIS

NEIS logoNEIS provides small business training and support to individuals not currently in employment, education or training to help you become a self-employed business owner. Chisholm has been involved and delivering the training in the program for over 20 years.

The program is now available to anyone who is an Australian resident and their business satisfies NEIS requirements. You don’t have to be receiving a Centrelink benefit in order to do the NEIS program.

In this scheme you will:

  • complete a nationally accredited qualification: BSB30315 Certificate III in Micro Business Operations
  • receive 39 weeks of income support (if eligible)
  • get Rental Assistance for up to 26 weeks (if eligible)
  • benefit from 12 months of mentoring from an experienced business mentor.

NEIS eligibility

The program is now available to anyone who is an Australian resident and their business satisfies NEIS requirements. You don’t have to be receiving a Centrelink benefit in order to do the NEIS program.

You can participate in New Business Assistance with NEIS if you:

  • live in Australia and operate your business from within Australia.
  • are at least 18 years of age
  • are permitted to work in Australia
  • are available to complete training and work full-time in your business
  • have not received New Business Assistance with NEIS Assistance in the past year
  • are not an undischarged bankrupt

Recipients of certain Department of Human Services or Department of Veterans’ Affairs pensions may be able to remain on these payments while participating in New Business Assistance with NEIS.

Business proposal

Your proposed business must:

  • not be operating on a commercial basis already
  • have an independent business structure
  • be lawful and capable of withstanding public scrutiny
  • be assessed as commercially viable
  • be established, located and operated solely within Australia
  • be structured so you have and will maintain a controlling interest over the NEIS business for the duration of your time in the scheme.
