Want to become a pool lifeguard?
This short course provides the skills and knowledge required to work as a pool lifeguard. The course is delivered and assessed over two full days from a pool or aquatic environment.
All candidates must ensure they have a current level 2 first aid course (HLTAID003 or HLTAID011 - Provide First Aid) prior to enrolment. A certified copy of the Statement of Attainment must be supplied upon enrolment.
Upon successful completion, students will receive the following units of competency for this skillset:
HLTAID011 Provide first aid (Credit available)
PUAEME001 Provide emergency care
PUAEME003 Administer oxygen in an emergency
SISCAQU002 Perform basic water rescues
SISCAQU006 Supervise clients in aquatic locations
SISCAQU007 Perform advanced water rescues
HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
All participants must ensure they are competent and confident swimmers. You will be required to:
• swim 200 metres under six minutes without using equipment
• retrieve objects from the deepest water within the aquatic environment (no greater than 3m in depth)
• complete a 25m swim and 25m contact tow of a conscious casualty in less than 1min 45sec
• perform at least 2mins of uninterrupted CPR
It is advised that participants test themselves against these benchmarks prior to enrolling.
Please be advised that each aquatic facility has different age requirements when hiring lifeguards and obtaining this qualification is no guarantee of future employment.
Please note: International students are not eligible to enrol in this course.
