This qualification reflects the role of workers who provide services to clients in relation to mental health issues. They can provide counselling, referral, advocacy, education and health promotion services.
These workers are required to have high level specialist knowledge, skills and competencies especially in regard to laws affecting people with mental health issues, the range of services available to them and health issues related to mental health.

Graduates of the Diploma qualification may be eligible for pathways to the Diploma of Alcohol and Other Drugs or the Bachelor of Community Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs. All learning is face to face in the classroom.
To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 160 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency.

Admission requirements
A NDIS Workers Screeners check may be required for some placement opportunities., All applicants are required to attend an interview, Applicants must successfully complete BKSB assessment with an outcome of exit level 3 (working at 4) for literacy and exit level 2 (working at 3) for numeracy, Please note: All students need to be able to obtain a clear volunteer Working with Children Check prior to undertaking work placement., Student Enquiry and Enrolment Services may refer the applicant to the Community and Social Services Department to assess the applicant's suitability to meet the requirements of the course, Students must successfully complete a minimum of 160 hours work placement, Students who are unable to complete workplacement, will be unable to successfully complete the requirements of the course.

Chisholm courses are subject to minimum and maximum group numbers. Courses may be cancelled or postponed if minimum numbers are not achieved by the start date of the course. Courses may close prior to the start date if the maximum numbers are reached. In that situation, eligible applicants will be offered a place in the next available intake.
