This course covers the fundamentals of childhood development and caring for children.

Through classroom learning and practical placements in early-childhood education and childcare centres, you’ll learn skills focused on supporting children’s education.

The Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care can provide entry level job opportunities in early childhood centres, home based care, or school-based environments, however, many students go on to study higher level courses before gaining employment.

You’ll learn practical skills in areas such as first aid; work health and safety (WHS) processes; effective interaction with children; nutritional food provision; childhood development; sustainable practices; appropriate care for babies and children up to 5 years; and responding to young people at risk.

Experienced teachers, who are experts in the field, will guide you through the program, which can be delivered in a variety of ways to fit in with your work or lifestyle.

This nationally recognised qualification may lead to employment in roles such as a kindergarten assistant, school aged-care assistant, nanny, family day care carer or early childhood educator assistant.

Delivery will be a mix of blended classroom based, face to face and online learning.

There is a minimum requirement of the course for students to participate in 160 hours of industry work placement to gain valuable experience.

Practical placement is organised and timetabled in blocks and relates directly to the learning program. This is arranged by Chisholm and is phased throughout the course, commencing at approximately the 12th week. Total timetabled work placement is 318 hours.

Once complete, you can extend your skills by studying Chisholm’s Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care which can pathway into a Bachelor of Psychology at Chisholm.

Admission requirements

Academic IELTS 6.0 with no band less than 5.0 or equivalent, Practical placement requires that students engage professionally with children, families and colleagues often in a fulltime capacity, Practical placement requires that students engage professionally with children, families, and colleagues for a maximum 7.5 hours per day, up to 5 days per week therefore must be capable of spoken English language skills, Students must be 18 years or older and require a current Working with Children check for professional workplace experience (obtained in Australia), Students must be physically capable of sustaining CPR for at least two (2) minutes on the floor., Students must successfully complete a minimum of 160 hours work placement

Fees
Indicative total course fee = $13,835. Tuition Fee $13,330 (GST exempt), plus $485 material fees. Please note: Student services fee is waived for 2024 enrolments. Fees do not reflect if subjects are repeated.

Chisholm courses are subject to minimum and maximum group numbers. Courses may be cancelled or postponed if minimum numbers are not achieved by the start date of the course. Courses may close prior to the start date if the maximum numbers are reached. In that situation, eligible applicants will be offered a place in the next available intake.
