  Course structure

  To complete the Bachelor Degree of Business Accounting students must have already completed a diploma and then must complete the 16 subjects in the Accounting program. A full time student will enrol in 4 units per semester and this will take two years.

  Weekly workload per semester for 4 subjects: 12 hours face-to-face plus 24 hours personal study time.

  Accounting Information & SystemsACC001

  Semester one
  

  This subject introduces students to the key concepts of accounting information used by managers to make decisions for businesses. Tools and techniques used to focus on accounting information rather than recording of transactions enable students to interpret reports and communicate reports to interested stakeholders.

  Business Law 1BUS002

  Semester one
  

  Business Analytics/Statistics introduces the basic practice of statistics for making decisions in the presence of variability. Fundamental emphasis on understanding data through statistical concepts and its application by using modern software packages will enable students to formulate solutions to problems and to communicate data to support conclusions.

  Semester one
  

  Business Law provides students with an introduction to core principles of contract and consumer protection law, the law of negligence, and property law. Students gain exposure to ethical standards that apply to business activities such as contractual relationships and special legal protections against unethical practices. In promoting an understanding of the dynamic nature of law and basic legal problem solving, a skills-based approach is utilised to prepare students for more advanced law subjects and future careers.

  Semester one
  

  Business Marketing provides the fundamental principles of marketing strategy by exploring how organisations adapt marketing activities in response to organisational, societal and individual needs and wants. The impact of societal and cultural elements on both people and marketing practices is also explored.

  Semester one
  

  This subject offers organisational insights into information technology and systems relevant to organisations and managers. Students explore and understand the vital importance of IT in business performance and the improvement of people and processes through the use of contemporary technology.

  Semester two
  

  Business Economics introduces fundamental economic concepts and principles. Students will acquire these concepts for application both at work and everyday life. Including the behaviour of firms and consumers, this subject begins with an introduction to the tools of economic analysis, price formation, basic models of market structure and their efficacy. This subject also covers inflation, unemployment and monetary policy and an appreciation of micro and macro concepts will allow students to follow current business environment issues to participate in the formulation of business strategies.

  Semester two
  

  Building on the core principles developed in Business Law 1 and based on corporations law, this subject will examine types of business organisations, the relationships with internal and external stakeholders and the law regulating them.

  Management Accounting 1ACC004

  Semester two
  

  This subject provides students with the foundation of management accounting to understand the role of management accountants in organisations. Various topics are covered including identifying allocating cost types and cost behaviours, application of cost accounting techniques to produce cost information for cost control and to solve business problems.

  Corporate ReportingACC002

  Semester two
  

  Building on the fundamentals developed in Accounting Information, students are introduced to the source of international financial reporting regulation and the conceptual framework. Key accounting standards are explored to develop student skills in order to prepare external financial statements as an accounting professional, including income taxes, non-current assets, consolidations, and equity investments.

  Advanced Financial AccountingACC003

  Semester one
  

  Building on the knowledge and skills developed in corporate reporting, this subject provides a range of challenging financial reporting topics to allow students to prepare more complex general purpose financial reports, including intangibles, superannuation, financial instruments, and foreign currency transactions.

  Auditing & AssuranceACC008

  Semester one
  

  This subject enables students with insight into the environment in which auditors operate including legal liability. Students demonstrate audit planning and testing procedures, explain different types of auditor opinions and analyse real world auditing problems.

  Management Accounting 2ACC005

  Semester one
  

  Building on the accounting skills and knowledge gained in successful completion of Management Accounting 2, students further develop their understanding of more advanced cost control and practices to support decision-making for managers. Transfer pricing and employee incentive systems, budget control, behavioural issues, capital investments as well as sustainability accounting are included topics to enable students to critically evaluate and apply appropriate management accounting techniques that support decision making.

  Accounting TheoryACC007

  Semester two
  

  This subject covers contemporary developments in accounting theory, including normative measurement models, accounting regulation, international accounting standards, the conceptual framework, the critical perspective, and social & environmental accounting.

  Advanced TaxationACC009

  Semester two
  

  In this subject students will analyse basic principles of Australian taxation and related case law. Students will appreciate Commonwealth income tax legislation on individuals and businesses including general concepts of assessable income, deductions, capital gains and fringe benefits tax which will include calculation of final tax liability.

  Business MarketingBUS005

  Semester two
  

  This subject introduces the student to the principles of financial management from a corporate perspective. The approach is to present and examine the theory and practice of investment and financing decision-making. The application of a range of analytical techniques appropriate to contemporary financial decision-making is used to evaluate business options.

  Project 2BUS008

  Semester two
  

  Project 2 extends on the principles in Project 1 to introduce students to the challenges in executing projects and the tools and skills required to support project managers in making key decisions throughout the project lifecycle. Students will develop skills that will enable them to understand the key activities required throughout the execution and finalisation stages of a project. The subject focuses on the skills required by a Project Manager to monitor and control the project, manage key stakeholders and incorporate continuous improvement.

  Indicative total course cost $29,680. Total course cost is indicative based upon the 2024 tuition fee. Any increase in fees for subsequent years is not included in this value.
