As part of the Chisholm student experience, the Department of Education and Training (DET) are trialling a new way to support students in their practical placements. We'll send SMS messages in the weeks before, during and after placement to help students feel prepared, motivated and supported.

This approach has been used in other countries and shown to be an effective way to support students’ engagement and attainment.

This is the first time we’ve tried this approach, so we’re starting small. We’ll send the messages to students from a small group of courses. Afterwards we’ll see whether the messages helped them through their placement and stick with their studies. We’ll also get students’ feedback about the messages: whether they found them useful, and how we can improve them in the future.

The SMS messages are designed to be as simple and helpful as possible. But we know that not everyone will want to receive them, so any student can opt-out by simply replying STOP to any of the SMS messages.

Students’ privacy is very important. Only Chisholm Institute and the Victorian Department of Education and Training will have access to students’ personal data or contact details.
