You’ve finished high school – well done! So what’s next?

For many high school graduates, a gap year is the way to go. But a gap year can be so much more than staying out late and sleeping in. Studies show that when used constructively, a gap year can help students gain skills and better grades, and does not slow down academic momentum.

This means that if you do it right, your gap year can be both fun and useful, setting you up for work, career, and higher education. And at Chisholm, we can help!

  • Your gap year is the perfect time to explore something you’re passionate about. If you love the great outdoors, why not learn about it and explore it, with our Outdoor Recreation and Guiding course? Or maybe you see yourself as the next MasterChef? Try on the chef’s whites with a Cookery or Patisserie course.
  •

  • If you’re looking for work to earn some money, you’re up against some tough competition – that’s where a qualification can help. Our Certificate III courses take only six months to complete and get you out into the workforce quickly. You can choose from courses in Fitness, Pharmacy, Pathology, Individual Support, RetailHorticulture, Beauty Services, Hospitality, and much more. Certificate III courses also give you the best of both worlds: rest for six months, and get new skills for six months!
  •

  • If you don’t want to commit months to studying something new, try a short course. Courses in Responsible Service of Alcohol, First Aid, and Safe Food Handling only take a day or two to complete, and give you the practical skills and knowledge that employers are looking for.
  •

  • Work skills aren’t just for work: VET courses and a job will give you transferrable skills that you’ll use over and over again in your life.
  •

  • Didn’t get into the university course of your choice? Or maybe your ATAR wasn’t great? It’s not the end of the world. A TAFE certificate can improve your chances of getting in. Or if you prefer, you can begin your study at Chisholm and earn credit towards a university degree, thanks to our higher education partnerships.
