Follow your dream and study to become an early childhood centre director or educator, kindergarten educator, family day care carer or nanny.
When you complete the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC50113), you’ll have a nationally recognised qualification highly regarded by employers in this sector. You’ll be able to work at a senior level in a variety of children’s services, including designing and developing curriculum and supervision of staff. Throughout the course you’ll learn more about best practice and quality assurance; planning for children with additional needs; networking ; effective communication; family partnerships; childhood development (aesthetic, creative, physical); music program; and health and safety. This course is based on the National Quality Framework and Early Years Framework and has an emphasis on play-based learning.
To complete this qualification you will be required to undertake the following unit of competency HLTAID004 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting This unit is not available online, however Chisholm does offer the unit on campus. Please send a copy of your transcript if you have already successfully completed this unit previously.
Students are required to produce a valid Working with Children Check and a satisfactory police check prior to commencement of the course
Practical Placement is a required component of this course and will be scheduled as soon as possible with an appropriate placement host. Given the current environment, however, this may take longer than normal and therefore, expected completion dates for the course may need to be extended to take account of deferred placement.

This course requires mandatory practical placement in an approved early childhood setting. You will also need to complete a first aid course to gain this qualification.
This flexible online course allows you to study at your own pace with support from teachers, fellow students and student engagement officers every step of the way. Best of all, you can study whenever and wherever you want, giving you the freedom to complete your course alongside work and other commitments.

Admission requirements
Admission requirements are completion of BKSB assessment with an outcome of ACSF exit level 3 - working level 4, for both literacy and numeracy, Applicants must be 18 years or over, Chisholm Online students must also meet the requirements of the Chisholm Online Service Standards - https://www.chisholm.edu.au/study-online/how-studying-online-works/online-service-standards., First Aid (HLTAID004) prior to completing the course, Please note: All students need to be able to obtain a volunteer Working With Children Check prior to undertaking work placement, Students who are unable to complete workplacement, will be unable to successfully complete the requirements of the course.
