Introducing the latest, state-of-the-art learning facility in Victoria: the Frankston Learning and Innovation Precinct (FLIP).
FLIP is just a stone’s throw from the beach, but you won’t be distracted by the seagulls because there’s so much to do inside!
Imagine if you could enter a room that wasn’t just fitted out with equipment for the task, but that the buildings were a mirror of real-life working environments – spaces that allow you to learn the skills needed to work in various industries.
FLIP has two separate buildings with space for different careers and workplaces. Building B is dedicated to technical trades: plumbing, carpentry, electrical, electrotechnology and engineering. Some of the workshop floors are a shared space just like a worksite. So, as a student, you’re mixing with others, as you would on a project or a worksite.
Building A is just next door and has four stories of practical learning. Early Childhood has its own Childcare Centre space, and you work with local families and parent groups to understand how to apply all that you have learned in the classroom.
Did you know?
Sustainability was a key driver in FLIP’s design. The buildings are fitted with EcoSoft carpets made from 400,000 recycled bottles which would have otherwise ended up in landfill.
The hairdressing studio on Level 4 is just like a salon, while on the ground floor Mysa Salon and Spa, welcomes customers from the community each day. At Mysa, students learn how to work with actual clients, schedule bookings, manage their time and work with peers. It’s also about learning your industry or sector and starting or advancing your career.
On Level 2, the health wards and laboratories operate just like a hospital – except the patients aren’t real. Although the computerised patients do speak to you from their hospital beds and they have all the symptoms that you can think of in a real person – and they’re lifelike!
There are more than 4000 students who will use the facilities in the next year, and each of them will be building their future career one class, one workshop, and one training session at a time.
