Ask for police, fire or ambulance, and then make sure a Chisholm staff member is advised of the situation.

If you need to evacuate in case of emergency, a warning signal will sound. The building’s fire warden will guide you when it is time to leave.

There are fire and emergency evacuation plans in the corridors of each building. They show you where the nearest exit and assembly areas are. Remember that evacuation plans for each building are different.

Security and first aid

Contact the Security for your campus location if you require first aid, feel unsafe, experience any breaches of personal safety (including assault), need an across campus escort, notice any suspicious behaviour, see someone in an unsafe situation or if you need to report a hazard.

Student support

If you are experiencing extreme financial hardships or homelessness, suicide ideation, are at risk of self-harm, need to report sexual assault, or need counselling or mental health support please contact Student Support on 1300 244 746 (select option 4).

If there is an immediate or life-threatening situation on campus, please call 000 immediately and then notify Security at your campus location.

Personal safety

Use common sense to stay safe at all times! Notify a staff member immediately if you see something that looks dangerous or unsafe, you hurt yourself, have a near-miss or if you are unsure of how to use something. Please follow all safety procedures and instructions from your teacher and wear all required personal protection equipment.

Online safety

Take care online by following some simple tips:

  • Don’t give out personal information when online, such as your phone number, date of birth, where you live and what your plans are
  • Don't click on links in emails from people you don’t know or don’t know well
  • Protect your passwords: when using a public computer, make sure you log out of the accounts you’ve accessed before leaving the terminal
  • Protect your digital footprint: don’t put anything online that you wouldn’t want all of your friends, family, teachers and future employers to see.
