Gillian Benoit
Gillian Benoit is well on the road to success in the accounting business and she says that she owes a large portion of her success to choosing the correct education pathway training at Chisholm Institute.
Originally from Mauritius, Gillian 22 went straight from school to university.
“I wasn’t ready for such a big leap from high school to tertiary education and after six months I was struggling and opted out.
“I pretty much decided to come to Australia then and even before I left my homeland I was hearing great things about Chisholm courses in my career field of accounting on the local education grapevine.”
Gillian enrolled at Chisholm Dandenong undertaking an advanced Diploma of Accounting.
“The difference at Chisholm from University was in the way I was received by trainers and fellow students made all the difference. You are really accepted, nurtured and made to feel pretty good about your chosen studies.”
“Nothing seems too much trouble for your trainers to help you with. You definitely feel that you are on a one-on-one learning relationship, not just an enrolment number or nameless face in the crowd.”
Having finished the course late last year Gillian is now enrolled in her first year of University at Swinburne studying for her Bachelor of Accounting.
“Chisholm set me up perfectly for entrance to university. As a result of TAFE studies my University course credits were reduced by half from 24 to 12.
“I now am really confident about entering University this time. I feel great about my entrance skills levels, which has given me a better overall awareness of what to expect and how to cope with it.”
“I suppose you could say my Chisholm study has given me the ‘smarts’ this time. I know from speaking to other students that I am now very well equipped to enter the tertiary field.”
Gillian says she chose accounting studies originally because something started to click inside about the numbers game. ‘There is no grey area as numbers really have to add up and they are either right or wrong.”
“I found that when I started University too early. I just wasn’t ready for it and it wasn’t right for me. Chisholm gave me spot-on training at the right time of my life.
“I genuinely couldn’t be happier. My advice to others considering University but feel they are not ready yet, is to talk to a Chisholm Career adviser.
“They can supply the right measures of confidence-building training that will prepare and deliver you to your tertiary goals.”
