    In this pre-apprenticeship course, you have the opportunity to learn the terminology, materials characteristics and properties and construction techniques used in the building and construction industry. On completion you gain credits which will reduce the time at trade school and take additional time off an apprenticeship.

    Areas of study include: Building Structures, Calculations for Building Industry, Career Studies, Communications for Building Industry, Introduction to Scaffolding, Levelling, Quality Principles for Building Industry, Safe Handling of Plant & Power Tools, Workplace Document & Plans, Carpentry Hand Tools, Carpentry Power Tools, Basic Setting Out, Sub-floor Framing, Wall Framing, Roof Framing, External Cladding, Installation of Door & Window Frames, Interior Fixing, Introduction to OH&S Aspects of Demolition, Formwork for Concrete, Workplace Safety & Industry Induction, Workplace Safety & Environmental Procedures, Basic First Aid.

    Students who have completed VETiS with Chisholm will be guaranteed a pathway into this course.

    Entry requirements: Completed Year 10 or equivalent. For Berwick TEC specific requirements check the TEC website.

  • Career Path

    Applying and Enrolling

    To enrol at Chisholm, you need to apply, and then be accepted. Procedures to apply for courses vary. A TAFE application may go through VTAC, for example. In other cases the application may be direct to Chisholm or through your employer or school.

    With a successful Chisholm Institute of TAFE application, in some cases,  you may need to attend an information session or submit a portfolio prior to completing your enrolment.
