Many Chisholm courses are government subsidised, which means that the government pays most of the costs and you only have to pay a contribution fee.
Some courses are full fee paying - referred to as Fee for Service - and are not government subsidised.
The eligibility of a student for a government subsidised place needs to be determined prior to enrolling. Go to the “More affordable training FAQs” page which answers most general questions on eligibility.
Minimum and maximum fees for government subsidised courses
For government subsidised courses, the contribution fee is capped to restrict the maximum a student will pay in one year.
In 2010 the minimum student fee contribution is $50 and the maximum is $2000, depending on course category and after the government subsidy.
In addition there are Student Service and Amenities fees (minimum $26 to maximum $82) and materials fees (e.g. textbooks) which vary according to the course you are doing.
More detailed information on the latest fees and charges can be found in the ‘Fees and Charges Booklet’ PDF and the ‘2010 Tuition Fees Schedule’ PDF.
Concessions
All students who enrol and commence training in government subsidised training in Foundation Skills, Skills Creation, Apprenticeships and Traineeships and Skills Building course categories, and who are holders of a Commonwealth Health Care Card, Pensioner Concession Card or Veterans' Gold Card, will pay the minimum fee.
Tuition fee concessions are not available for students enrolling in a Skills Deepening course.
To qualify for the concession you must provide proof at the time of enrolment that you are the card holder, or the dependant spouse or dependent child of the card holder. If your name appears on your spouse or parent's Health Care Card or Pensioner Card, please produce the card at time of enrolment.
If you have a low income, we recommend you contact Centrelink to determine if you are eligible for one of these cards. Centrelink telephone: 131021 or Website: www.centrelink.gov.au
With a concession, the minimum tuition contribution for a course category will apply, as will the minimum Student Service and Amenities Fee for a calendar year.
Please note: These fees do not apply to Fee for Service courses. Please contact the relevant Department Course Coordinator for current fees and charges information on full fee paying courses.
Materials fees
The materials fee for each course is set by the responsible Centre Director. It covers the actual cost of essential materials required for the successful undertaking of the course, excursions and other activities. You will be provided with details of these fees when you enrol.
There are no concessions for materials fees. There are no refunds after four [4] weeks of commencement of classes, except where goods or activities have not been supplied, or where goods can be returned if unused.
Where the materials fee for a government-subsidised course exceeds $300 you may apply to pay the materials fee using the Instalment Payment Scheme. This scheme does not apply to Fee for Service courses, Short Courses or International students.
Chisholm’s CEO may exercise the right to waive or amend this fee structure in the case of extreme hardship.
VET FEE-HELP
If you want to do a course in the Skills Deepening category, and need help to pay either the subsidised fee contribution or the full fee requirement, a VET FEE-HELP loan may be available subject to eligibility.
Chisholm is a registered VET FEE-HELP provider.
Go here for more information on VET FEE-HELP.
Withdrawals and Refunds
To officially withdraw from a course or units, you must do so within four weeks of the date classes start, or on or before the census date for a VET unit of study, regardless of when you enrolled or when you attended classes. You are required to lodge a completed Withdrawal/Refund form. If you just stop attending classes without lodging a form, it will be recorded as a Not Passed (N or NS) by the teaching department.
To be eligible for a full refund, you will need to surrender your student ID card and any parking permit, and settle all outstanding fines and loans.
Chisholm’s Refund Policy for government subsidised courses does not apply to Fee for Service
Should Chisholm cancel a course, you will receive a full refund.
If you were eligible for a concession card, but didn’t have a card when you enrolled and have paid full fees, you can apply for a refund of the concession for tuition and amenities fees by producing a concession card or confirmation letter from Centrelink that is dated prior to the date classes start.
Please note: Concessions are not available for Skills Deepening course category enrolments.
If you officially withdraw from the whole course (within four weeks of the start of classes or on or before the census date for a VET unit of study), you can apply for a refund of the fee paid less a $56 administration charge, or the minimum tuition fee for the relevant course category, whichever is applicable.
If you officially withdraw from part of the course, the $56 Administration charge or the minimum tuition fee for each Skills Reform fee category will be waived as applicable.
If you officially withdraw from the whole course (within four weeks of the start of classes) and provide proof of enrolment in an alternative course at another TAFE or University, you can apply for a full refund.
If you transfer from one government subsidised course or unit to another (within four weeks of the start of classes), you can apply to be refunded any difference in the fees.
Please note: There are no appeals against refund decisions unless it relates to VET FEE-HELP.
