      About

      Sustainability

The most common way to define sustainability is: "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs".

Sustainability aims for a balance of economic, social and environmental principles and Chisholm supports the principle of integrating sustainability considerations into its operations.

Chisholm’s core business is vocational education and training. The direct environmental impacts of this business activity have been identified with targets relating to:

    • Greenhouse gas emissions
    • Energy
    • Water
    • Waste
    • Onsite renewable generation
    • GreenPower purchasing
    • Embedding sustainability into Institute business
    • Embedding sustainability into education

Further to this, Chisholm is committed to actions relating to green procurement and education for sustainability, which supports the Chisholm 2020 target of 50% reduction in the Chisholm sustainability index by 2020, relative to 2007.

Chisholm recognises the integration of sustainable operations/ management, our policies, program delivery and assessment and organisational culture is essential, so that as an organisation we demonstrate sustainable principles and practices to our stakeholders. The Sustainability Victoria ResourceSmart program is a key component in supporting the achievement of this organisational goal.

Chisholm has already achieved benefits through implementing sustainability management actions including reduced operational costs, reduced energy and water consumption, effective risk management and increased staff and student engagement with sustainability at our locations.

The Chisholm ResourceSmart Strategy purpose is to support sustainability integration throughout the range of Chisholm’s operations, planning, policy and procedural development.
