Library

Library Services for External Borrowers 

Members of the community are welcome to use resources and some facilities at any of the five staffed campus libraries. To borrow items membership is available on a fee-paying basis.

Individuals may ask for an application/registration form at the Loans Desk of any campus library. Organisations may apply in writing to the Library Manager, Chisholm Institute, PO BOX 684 Dandenong, 3175.

Fees

Membership is $55.00 for six months or $110.00 per year. Concession rates also apply.

Resources

The library collection includes a wide range of course-related and recreational materials including:

  • Non-fiction, fiction and picture books
  • Dictionaries, encyclopedias, atlases, directories and handbooks
  • Newspapers, magazines and journals
  • Charts and maps
  • CDs, video and audio cassettes

Items for loan

Items can be borrowed from and returned to any of the campus libraries. Up to 20 items may be borrowed. Reserve desk and seven day loan items may not be borrowed due to heavy demand by staff and students.

Renewals

Renewals can by made in person, by telephone, fax, email or online using the My Account function of the catalogue. Please register a PIN with staff at the Loans Desk to use this function. Items may be renewed up to three times after the first loan. Items requested by another borrower cannot be renewed. Overdue items may be renewed if your fines are less than $20.00.

You may search the catalogue in the library or from home if you have an Internet connection. Holds may be placed online, details of your loans may be viewed and items renewed using the My Account function. To enable these functions to be used please register a PIN with library staff.

Photocopying and binding

Colour and black and white photocopiers are available at each campus library. Photocopy cards are available for $2.00 at the Loans Desk. Credit can be added to the card using either the coin or note loaders or the EFTPOS facility.  Binding facilities are available at all campuses. Binders may be purchased from the Loans Desk.

Copyright

Members of the public are expected to comply with copyright regulations. Notices are placed at each of the photocopiers.

Fines and penalties

Fines are 20c per day, per overdue item. All days are counted, including weekends. Public holidays are excluded. Fines stop accruing from the day items are returned or renewed.  Borrowing continues if your fines remain under $20.00. If your fines reach $20.00 or more the whole amount must be paid.

Lost or damaged items must be paid for.  Community borrowers who breach library procedures will not be able to continue borrowing and there will be no refund of membership fees.
